Dear
Friend: |
|
| |
|
|
|
Beginning in mid-January, the weather in
wine country was simply magical. Warm
breezes, shorts, flip-flops, and cold Chenin
Blanc were the name of the game. However,
all good things must come to an end. Our
Indian summer was greeted with extremely
cold temperatures and lots of rain over
President’s Day weekend. We even had snow
on the peaks around the Dry Creek Valley!
It was very picturesque and beautiful. As
we head into this weekend, forecasters are
calling for snow all the way to San
Francisco. If that occurs, it will be the
first measurable snowfall in the city by the
bay since 1976. All of this cold weather
isn’t having much of an effect on the
vines. Things are still dormant in the
vineyard and bud break is weeks away. As
winter thaws, we’ll report back with more
updates from the vineyard.

SAG Awards -
What a Night! |
 |
|
|
|
|
The stars were out in full force for
the 17th Annual Screen
Actors Guild Awards®, held January
30, 2011 at the Shrine Auditorium in
Los Angeles. In attendance, working
her Dry Creek Vineyard magic, was
second generation owner Kim Stare
Wallace. This was Kim’s 11th
consecutive year attending the show
and our eleventh year as the
“official wines” of the SAG Awards®.
|
|
During the pre-show, Kim proudly
strolled the red carpet with her
6.0L bottle of SAG Awards Cuvee.
Ironically, Kim was voted the
best-accessorized person on the red
carpet! Check out the pics on the
website
GoFugYourself.
In addition, she mingled with
Hollywood stars, talked about Dry
Creek Vineyard wines and conducted
interviews with People Magazine and
Entertainment Tonight. She even
mixed it up with the line of
paparazzi showing off her big bottle
in front of hundreds of cameras and
photographers. For a small family
winery like ours, this was
phenomenal exposure.
Once the show began, Dry Creek
Vineyard wines were prominently
featured on each table during the
live dinner show as
well |
|
|
|
as at tasting bars at
the back of the
auditorium. After the show,
the rest of the wines were enjoyed
at the after party in the People
Magazine tent.
For
those of you interested in
purchasing the 2008 SAG Awards Cuvée,
we are going to officially release
this wine to our VIP Club members at
the end of 2011. This is an
incredible wine produced exclusively
for the awards show. A blend of
Bordeaux varietals from our estate
vineyards, this wine is bottled
exclusively in 1.5L magnums. For
more information on our VIP club or
to learn how to join, please contact
wine club administrator, Salina
Littleton at
vsc@drycreekvineyard.com
or call her at 707-433-1000 ext. 123.

terrific media coverage from

Sustainable Winegrowing Efforts |
 |
|
|
|
|
Sustainability is not
just a buzzword for our family winery. In fact, we
are currently in the process of becoming a certified
California Sustainable Winegrower. The
essence of our business model is to leave |
|
the
land and our winery in better shape for the third
generation. This means that we are constantly
evolving to be more socially and environmentally
responsible. Cultivating our vineyards through the
planting of cover crops, providing areas for birds
of prey and using non-pesticides to keep weeds and
other diseases away are just some of what we are do
to live a sustainable life. As we continue to grow
and develop our sustainability efforts, we will
update you with information. In the meantime,
for more information on this topic check

Fennel, Radish and Meyer Lemon Salad |
  |
|
|
|
|
Spring may seem like a long way off
but it’s never too early to start
thinking about healthy salads using
delicious winter time vegetables.
|
|
This is a refreshing, easy
to make salad and pairs
incredibly well with our
2009 Sauvignon Blanc, Dry
Creek Valley. If it’s too
cold to eat outside, you
might try turning up the
heat in your house to mimic
spring-like temperatures!
All kidding aside, enjoy
this recipe by our friend
Colleen McGlynn from Davero
Olive Oil here in
Healdsburg.
